Growth

If the gap year had to be summed up in one word that would be: growth. You will grow during the gap year! This growth is in various forms: Growing closer to God.

Adventure

Our purpose is to evoke the spirit of the courageous pioneer in each PNEUKLEUS student. We will accomplish this through a number of travel, adventure, individual and group challenges. Through these the student will develop a strong sense of identity, decision making skills and a high level of independence.

Paradigm

During this part of the program there will be a lot of opportunity for feedback on the other aspects of the program, for instance Growth sessions, Adventure and Enhance, that will challenge the mind-set and paradigm of each student, essentially broadening their personal frame of reference.

whY

We live in a “Y generation!” We are aware that a lot of students are asking big questions such as “Y me?” and “Y God?” We are not afraid to explore these questions and discuss them. Behind the “Y generation” and all their questioning is a longing to know “Y are they here”? And perhaps some wonder: “Y would God care for me?”

So central to PNEUKLEUS is spiritual formation and development which translates into activities centred on forming an active relationship with God and developing a sound understanding thereof.

Enhance

Enhance is that part of the program to where the PNEUKLEUS student is exposed to different career fields by means of career exposure, job shadowing and additional courses.

Abroad

2017 introduced an overseas trip to Argentina to the gap year programme. The point of this trip is to explore more of the world and experience a new culture.

Robust

This part of the program is all about becoming life-fit and resilient. Therefore it entails “life skills” and physical health.

The Benefits

Of A

GAP Year

Doing a GAP year is so much more than just taking a holiday for a year. Pneukleus is directed at, a clear constructive and significant year of growth and self-discovery.

Why do a Gap Year?

  • GAP years don't have to involve foreign travel, most GAP year students seize the opportunity to and through South Africa. Because of this young people find out who they are and what inspires them.

  • For students who grew up in a structured environment with clearly defined social, athletic and academic goals, GAP years offer valuable personal freedom. Young people are able to figure out who they are and what inspires them.

  • You only live once. A GAP year bursting with travel, adventure, exploration and self-discovery can be life-changing and intensely memorable experience.

  • For many students, especially those from sheltered backgrounds, the GAP year is a time to learn how to get along in the real world.

  • More than 50% of all university first years do not finish their courses that the started with, or do not finish at all. Those who do finish often pursue careers with the wrong motives or undealt with baggage from the past and end up unfulfilled in their jobs or even divorced.

  • Students who arrive at university with a full year of live experience under their belts are less likely to engage in risky behaviour than students for whom college/university is their first intoxicating dose of freedom from parental supervision.

  • College/University can be an opportunity to explore a wide range of academic disciplines, but students will get a lot more out of their education if they at least have a general idea of what they want to study, and the career their expensive education will them for.

  • Education, at it’s core is about accumulating intimate knowledge of the world through a wide range of life experience.

Outcomes of a GAP year

“I learned allot about who I am and what I am capable of in the real world …”

“I have a much better understanding of other cultures and people all walks of life …”

“I have received the tools to help me decide what career would suite me best …”
